What is value?! Is a voyage of discovery for Dutch primary school students aged 9 through 12; a cultural project week in which children can get to know the everyday lives of kids their age in developing countries in a creative way.
Along the way we talk, we think, we do, we make and we play.
The booklet and the project week
With the theme ‘value’ as a guideline, children are made aware of the differences but above all the similarities between here and there. In the wonderfully designed and bright booklet ‘What is value?!’ several tasks and questions come to pass. Kids are encouraged to think about value in a playful manner.
This means not only monetary value but also immaterial value, such as the value of a beautiful memory or a good deed done for another.
Besides doing all kinds of fun assignments the kids also take part in creative workshops linked to the presented developing country, so that on the final Friday afternoon (or evening) they can showcase their talents under the slogan ‘A chance for me, a chance for you’. During the talent show the children collect money for the benefit of children their age on the other side of the world. The website for children
A special website has been developed for this project. Children can find out more about the project country and the children there mainly in a visual way, by means of photos, videos and stories.
The Worthless Card Game
Attention please! This game is NOT fair, but it is fun.
The opportunities in this game aren’t divided equally, just like in real life: sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don’t. It’s a surprise every time and you have to make the best of what you get.
As they play kids learn to think about earning, spending and saving money and how to get along in life. You can win the game by becoming the richest player or by helping others as much as possible
